A downloadable game for Windows

This is Manhattan's Fallout, a work-in-progress demo to a text-based reimagining of the original Fallout game.

Story:
"Nobody talks about the Panic Attack in Vault 13. They pretend it was all just a bad dream, as if they can't even fathom that their own hands could cause so much pain."
  • The story of Manhattan's Fallout starts much earlier than the original game, throwing you into the California Wasteland of 2107 rather than 2161.
  • Companions will have a greater role in the story, popping up along the way to help (or hinder) your efforts. Can still kill 'em, though.
  • A large expansion to the history and makeup of Vault 13 is currently in-progress, as the Vault and its outer cave system will be the first area the player explores in the game. For now, the groundwork and the reasoning behind these additions have been established and are serving as a good baseline to work from.
Features:
Do YOU know what's around the corner? Neither do we!  If you have trouble keeping your memory alive following an unfortunately fatal accident, the Vault-Tec Ad-Lib Form is here to help! Just fill in the blanks, and save us a thanks!
  • Characteristics such as age, gender, height, weight and many more can be defined within the Vault-Tec Ad-Lib Form.
  • The SPECIAL system returns, with comedic titles for every level in every stat.
  • Three Skills can be Tagged at the start, boosting their numbers and honing your playstyle.
  • Traits make their return, and they're weirder than ever. Which may or may not be a good thing - who's to say?
  • Over 90 Load Screens can be found in the game, those being largely drawn from and inspired by the 3D Fallout titles.
  • Feel like jotting anything down? The Data section of your Pip-Boy includes a Notes field that can both record and display notes that you'd like to keep close; they don't update in real time though, so simply Close the Data section and then re-enter it to see the changes.
  • There's more to come, so stay tuned!
How to Help:

If you'd like to help the project, there are two primary ways to go about it.

  • Share the page with your friends. Word of mouth can go a long way towards motivating me to do more and to get it done faster, because I am a simple being that enjoys admiration and applause.
  • Leave comments on my Devlogs in Itch. I update this game pretty much every other day at this point in time, and I am desperate to hear opinions and ideas from those who have played it. I know that half the views are likely me on another account and maybe my dog, but I do greatly appreciate feedback.

That about covers everything, for now. Have a great day, and thank you for reading :)

To start the game reliably, you'll have to go through the folder itself rather than through the Itch app or anything like that; just extract the ZIP and open the index.html file.

Very cool interface you have set up here! There's a few glitches (the options in the character select disappear after you've selected them, and the text size shrinks suddenly on some passage changes) and the SPECIAL stats interface would benefit from fixed-position buttons/links instead of being inline with the text. I think having some modal dialogs will help when displaying explanation text, although I don't remember off the top of my head whether Harlowe has those built in.

Thank you for your feedback! I know we've already discussed these topics over Discord, but for the sake of public record I wanted to acknowledge your comment here as well. The next update should be coming by the end of the month, if not sooner - it's a content one, but I'll be trying to incorporate this feedback into that update if it doesn't take too terribly long to do so. Have a good day :)
